"Crippled Black Phoenix have, in their relatively short life, generated many rumours and script, but at the heart of it all is something quite special. Drawing musical influences from an eclectic range of sounds old and new, yet standing alone in a genre that's not quite been defined.
Starting out life as Justin Greaves, then with the help of some old friends, CBP have now become a solid and active live band, whilst keep their feet firmly planted in the studio experimenting with modern and antique sounds. With a pedigree of such bands as Iron Monkey, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, Mogwai, Gonga, North Sea Navigator, Team Brick, Pantheist, Thought Forms and Electric Wizard, they have come up with a sound that is hard to call, some are hearing prog-folk, some hear mournful balladry, but whatever their take on it, it has certainly had the public and critics scrabbling for words, and Crippled Black Phoenix are happily oblivious to it all.
Having released the debut album "A Love of Shared Disasters" in 2007, CBP are now working on the next part of the plan. Also to keep things oiled Invada Records are to release an E.P. featuring songs that have been on the setlist for the past months of touring.
Now continuing on the "Endtime Ballads" theme, the band are ever expanding and have shown they're not afraid to stick out their neck to create some timeless, decadent and progressive music. Guitars coated with strings and piano, striking with the most emotional yet subtle sounds that could drag forever across a universe, seeming somewhat at odds with the current climate. With songs which revisit a time this modern world has forgotten, lifting the listener out of reality, or songs that just captivate sheer sadness, the impact that haunts CBP's music hooks the inner emotions, only felt with the passing of something, so close and yet so distant, the soundtrack to saying goodbye".
